It doesn’t feel like Solstice this year. I’m indoors all the time where the lights are on and it’s warm. When I get up the sky is just beginning to lighten, it’s dark when I get out of work. But just a little frost in the morning, no snow. Hard to work up that Solstice Spirit. Maybe a little Paul Winter and a candle or two.
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac Winter begins December 21, 6:12 A.M. EST. Fortunately, this year the shortest day is a Friday, so many of us will have the weekend to recover. And the world is ending.
I’ve outlived several ‘End of the World’ prophesies, starting with the 1970’s bestseller,‘The Late Great Planet Earth’ by Hal Lindsey.
Incredibly, Earth is still here, and Hal Lindsey, age 83, is still predicting its imminent demise. Will Earth or Hal be the one to say, ‘I told you so’?
The same people who are bringing us the Mayan Apocalypse brought us the Harmonic Convergence. I went to a sunrise ceremony, because the idea amused me– though if peace had broken out suddenly I wouldn’t have minded.
It’s okay to pull back a little in Winter, I think. Nature hibernates and who are we to resist Her mood? Well, we’re humans, that’s what we do.
Blessed Solstice, everyone, and a Happy New Year.
