Today’s Tarot considers the benefits of Science. This might surprise those who consider the Tarot to be superstition instead of an ongoing experiment in how the random can illuminate patterns that are otherwise hidden, but whatever.
To start, Salon magazine urges women not to freak out about news that high-estrogen birth control pills may increase the risk of breast cancer.
The Atlantic notes that the study found no increased risk of cancer among women who took low-dose birth control pills, otherwise known as the more commonly prescribed type of oral contraception. High-dose estrogen pills, which did see an increased risk of breast cancer, have become increasingly uncommon and are typically prescribed for women who are dealing with other medical issues that might necessitate their use.
This is important because, like the anti-vaccine people, the anti-contraception people look for studies that confirm their bias and make stuff up when they don’t find what they want.
This month’s Scientific American speculates that our universe may be just a reflection of a 4th Dimensional Black Hole. I don’t know if that changes anything, but it’s interesting. It’s in the print edition now, so no link. They do, however, post a link to the best social media sites for artists.
Lastly, one of those, ‘well, duh’ scientific discoveries- when you are in a relationship the silent treatment is the worst.
I can’t remember the last time Mr. Green and I did that to each other. Maybe because at our age we realize life is too short.
If anyone knows who did the original rechargeable cat picture let me know so I can credit them.
Happy Tuesday, see you tomorrow.
