Tarot Daily Dot Decoder, Primary Day, 2014

colored women voters

This photo was taken about a hundred years ago. The sign says, ‘Headquarters of Colored Women Voters’. They stood up to the dual oppressions of race and gender prejudice to claim the right to vote. It was dangerous, they were called names, they had to face opposition from without and within. And they did not have any guarantee that they would come down on the right side of history, but they won the victory for all women.

Fifty years later, women would march for Civil Rights, Voting Rights, and again Women’s Rights.

So don’t stay home on election day. Not only will these ladies haunt you, but you will wake up on Wednesday knowing you gave up your chance to complain for the next 2 years.
